Link's Crossbow Training

Now this is packed with the Zapper, so I've got to mention that as well. It's a peripheral for the Remote and the Nunchuk and Remote fit into it. It's perfectly modeled around your hand, and sleek, unlike the boxey (is that a word?) rip-offs sold by GAME etc. (kingrajaei will kill me for that, he loves GAME). People are going to say, this is a Zelda game, its bound to be rubbish. Two things to say to that. Zelda is not rubbish, it was a Zelda game that won best game ever in the equivalent of the Oscars in gaming, and still holds the title after 12 years, and this is just a spin-off from the amazing Twilight Princess, and has no storyline, so it is not a traditional Zelda. The game is easy, but a great intro to the Zapper. It's hard to get good scores on the various levels, though I completed it in about an hour overall. It's good despite its shortness (hint hint kr) and has loads of cool features like the automatic crossbow. KR is so going to kill me now.

Well worth getting the Zapper for if you are still considering the lightgun with its rubbish design.

Battle For Middle Earth 1 (PC)

This is a strategy battle game in which you control either the forces of good or the forces of evil in the quest to take over Middle Earth.
The game has a system in which in each map, there are certain points called camp, when captured they allow you to build a certain number of building and only in certain places, this can be quite restricting but makes the bases quite compact and makes you slightly more offensive as you need more space for more buildings. The game contains four races and each has very individual attributes.
This is certainly different from most strategy games and is quite fun, not very re-playable.

Pretty Good,

Rome Total War (PC)

Again a type of game not talked about yet, Rome Total War is a strategy battle game in which you choose to control one nation (or one of the 3 factions of Romans), and seek to take control o ancient Europe. In this not only do you choose which units to train, which building to create in your cities, control your political status with other factions, control diplomats, and control powerful armies, but you can fight the battle too.
Not only does this game embrace all the typical things found in other strategy battle games but it also offers many new aspects that haven't been shown in that many other games. The game is very re-playable as there are over 8 playable factions.

Very good, but not perfect.

Assassins Creed (XBOX 360)

Unlike any posts on this blog before, this is a third person action game. And when I say action, I don't really mean action. Its more adventure, but adventure makes it sound like Zelda and it definitely isn't. Its best described as a stealth game, event though that isn't really a category. Basically you are an assassin in the Holy Land during the Crusades working for the Assassins brotherhood, to achieve peace. So not only do you kill Arabs, but English leaders as well. You can use one of your four weapons to achieve your mission. Hidden blade, short blade, sword or throwing knives. Here is the trailer.

Everything done in the video can be done, except the use of the crossbow. The game has entire cities that are all explorable, here is a video that shows this, it is not great quality but shows my point.

This game is great, the controls are natural, the graphics are AMAZING, all the things you can do, i.e. jump across rooftops and jump of buildings, is original and works. THe only problems are the lacks of character improvement and weapon upgrade, basically it could have a really good RPG aspect that isn't really looked at. Apart from that brilliant.

Wow, cool.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl (DS)

Yay!! Finally, a Pokemon game on the DS! Well, a traditional one. It's great for Wi-fi and trading, and the new pokemon are really good. Not much to write here, you just have to play it and feel how great it is. The new legends are really powerful but not as good as some, and I wish you could just upload all your pokemon at once. And i hate what people are doing when they see pokemon! They laugh. If they were real gamers they would know how great it was. I hate these people who call themselves gamers but ARE NOT!!!!

Back to the game. So, the starters have to be some of the best yet. Lets just say this is amazing.

Wii Sports (Wii)

Obviously, let's go in chronological order. So the first thing you do when you open our Wii is marvel at the size, then how the controller is so perfectly designed around the hand, then you start it. And then you put Wii Sports in, go 'ooh' at the pretty blue light (or maybe that's just me) and start the game. And naturally, you go for the most advertised and popular game, tennis, the natural choice as it's on top. You choose your Mii (if you don't know what that is, Google it, you're a shame to all gaming until you know) and start playing. And, oh, the novelty of it! it's nearly everything you could have hoped for (lacking perfect replication of your remote moves) and everything if you aren't good at tennis.

Next, Baseball. now that replicates, and it's hard. A gamer's dream, if you're not one of the ones that moans about graphics. It's my favourite, but not much to write about.

Next, bowling. Tip, keep the arm straight and you can get strikes and spares all the time. Spin is amazingly important and if you use my tip, then you can get loads of points. I once got five strikes in a row.

Golf is not so good. Not accurate, easy or anything like real golf, but the graphics, especially the rivers, are beautiful.

Boxing, is fun. Pure anger let-out. But there's not much of a strategy early on, but great in the really hard stages and can give you a good work-out.

I love it!!!

Halo 3 (Xbox 360)

The long awaited final to the trilogy and it does not disappoint, not only does this solve the problems of Halo 2 but it bring back everything that made Halo 1 so great. New weapons (the assault rifle is back, yay!), new vehicles (including human planes, hornets), better graphics, new grenades, new types of flood, new multiplayer modes, forge mode and the completion of the story.

Okay, new weapons and grenades: most noticeable ones are, spartan laser, turrets (which can be ripped off), flamethrower, gravity hammer, brute spiker(can be dual wielded) items including shield, bubble shield, auto turret, radar jammer, energy drain, trip mine incinerary grenades, spike grenades and more.

New vehicles: mongoose (basically a quad bike), hornets, elephant, chopper, prowler and shades, (N.B. Phatoms can now be destroyed).

Okay now that I've listed whats new I can explains what is so great about Halo 3.

Multiplayer, the legend has returned! Need I say more?

Campaign, longer, better, more in depth missions with less retarded AI, the plot is amazing and the ending is amazing. Not only the ending movie but the last missions as well, I'm sure you all realized its similarity to the end of Halo 1.

$84 million within the first 24 hours, the most made by any game ever, this even beat most summer blockbusters. When you type 'Halo 3' into Google you get 30,800,000 results, surely that speaks for itself.

Wow! Can it get better?

Halo 2 (XBOX)

Okay, so admittedly after Halo 1 this would have to be pretty good to meet expectations and personally I think after the success of Halo 1 they let us down a bit, they just made too many changes.

First of the change of health system, what the hell is that little bar, the original system was fine, it didn't need changing!

Second, getting rid of the assault rifle, again why? The battle rifle is good but that did not mean the assault rifle needed to be removed completely, then people say,'Oh two SMGs is just as good', but if you had the assault rifle you would have that power, and you could throw grenades, and you could whack people without losing half your fire power!

Third, why are the missions so short? This is a minor point but it was just a pointless move.

Fourth, okay I admit this isn't actually a con but it is not a pro. I am still unsure about whether the story line was good, or bad. It was good, but a bit too confusing. I personally wasn't that keen on the missions, but they were pretty good.

Okay, now the good things.

First, boarding. Personally I thought this made multiplayer a lot better, it means that if you are in a vehicle you are much more vulnerable than before.

Second, dual wielding, many people don't like this but personally I rather like it. Although I believe it does not give good cause to remove the assault rifle it does make things like plasma rifles much better (admittedly two needelers is a bit too good).

Third, the sword, although some say it is too good I think its a good addition to the mulitplayer.

Obviously there are more weapons, more vehicles and better graphics but that was expected. The multiplay and Live is still the best and although it was not as good as the first it was still amazing.

Sequels are never as good, we forgive you for your flaws.

Halo, Just Number 1 (XBOX)

As this blog is about games I think it is necessary to put Halo on somewhere.
So, we have all heard of Halo, be it for its legendary multiplayer, amazing single or two player campaign or for the many awards it has won including 'World's Best First Person Shooter'.
This game has everything a 1st person shooter can have: the vehicles are good (admittedly they get better in the later ones), the weapons are varied but nice and simple (also get better later on), the graphics are good (well at the time they were amazing), the controls are simple and easy to grasp, and of course Halo cannot be mentioned without complimenting its multiplayer. All in all I have never met a person who did not like this game, a game that will go down in the halls of fame. Spartan 117, you are the man!

Best Ever!

GTA: Vice City Stories (PSP)

Yay! This is fun. I've always wanted a game that you can just hijack cars and go kill. Well, there are loads of those, but this is better. It's so, well, violent and different. There's not much more to this game than that actually. You don't even need to go very far into the story, its fun without. I love, uh, the killing, the uh... cars, the uh... weapons, the uh.. tank... Bored. I have so many other better games, and with better graphics. But this is great when I'm angry or bored.

OK,boring and hard story disappointing, but killing makes up for it.

Pokemon Battle Revoluton (Wii)

OK, big hopes for this, I'm a big Pokemon fan. OK, non-gamers will laugh at that. So, anyway, big hopes. Then a big let-down. While the idea of a battle-only game is fine, the lack of character is bad. Although it opens up new opportunities,it means a non-fixed character, which doesn't feel right.

So, apart from that, the Mystery Gift option helps a lot and so does the import addition, where you can make a copy of your character and party. I like that, this isn't so much of a let-down. But anyway, the coliseums at the beginning are really easy, and I haven't played past them, there's so many better games I could play. Also, there is the mystery gift of Electrivire and Magmortar, for your DS games, and they're brilliant. But one thing I absolutely LOVE, the costumes. You can customise your trainer and that I've waited for for ages. You can Give them Pokemon Costumes! Yippeee!!!!

Disappointing

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)

Two words. Oh my God. Ok, three. This was AMAZING. The longest game in the world in its storyline, with even more afterwards. The first thing that hits you are the controls, which are perfect for the controllers. Movement is so intuitive, with the pointing to aim your bow etc. and moving and shaking the remote for the sword. If I was rating on that, 99%. The other 1% would be for the sword and shield exactly replicating the Remote and the Nunchuk's movements.

Next, the beautiful graphics. I hate what everyone says about the graphics on the Wii. They are beautiful when needed, eg this. This game is so realistic, considering it is in another world. When you enter the Throne room, even the carpet is detailed. I bet loads of you will now go and check this. PICKING ON ANYTHING! Sony fanboys, if you are not a gamer, you now know that they are considered the lowest of the low in gaming. But that's for another post.

Then the story. This is like a novel. Longest game story ever and goes on for ages, and when it does end, you want more but are left exhausted anyway. The plot twists and turns as you learn about Midna and the Twilight Realm, and everyone has a different elaborate character, and helps differently, especially Midna, but I'm keeping quiet about her. Find out yourself, I'm not giving the surprise away.

Finally, the gaming itself. The dungeons are really hard, and you get numerous items and weapons to help, and with unlockables as well. The puzzles test your brain to the limit and are the biggest factor that makes the game what it is.

Amazing. I say that a lot about this game.

Nearly perfect.

Mario Strikers: Charged Football (Wii)

So, this is the new mario football game. To start I would like to say this is NOT a traditional football game. It is four-a-side mario style game, and that means VIOLENCE!!! So, There are characters from the games as captains and minor ones as team members. There are challenges, exhibition matches and cups. These are packed with bonus characters and power ups, and there is the Mario Kart style possibility of weapons. Each character has their signature move, and captains can hold down shoot to power up their shot with a golf game bar. The first bar mode tells you how many shots you make, so you can score multiple goals, and the second tells you the speed, so it is harder to save.

The character system could be a LOT more elaborate and weapon usage could be better, but this is a great game but not great for those expecting a traditional game and gets boring after a few weeks. I give it

NBA Live 08 (PS3, PS2, Xbox 360, Wii)

Simply the best basketball game out there at the moment. Stunning graphics, awesome gameplay, brilliant online mode. I recommend this game to everyone out there who has a games console. PS3,PS2,Xbox 360 and the wii, this game is available on all the major consoles.
Now for a few specific details about the game. There is the all new NBA Allstar Weekend game mode. This game mode allows you to compete in the slam dunk contest, the 3 point shootout, the rookies vs. sophomores game and the East vs. West Allstar game.
It also has the dynasty mode as in the previous versions, however this dynasty mode has been highly improved. You are now able to make draft picks and schedule training times and also hire coaches to improve your players to help you reach the playoffs.
See whats hot and whats not. When you have the ball in the hands of one of your players, clicking L1 shows that players 'hot spots'. This basically means that you will know where to shoot with which players as they will make a high percentage of their shots from their 'hot spots'.
There are all new online gaming features which allow to interact with other players from all around the globe. If you own a PS3 headset then you can talk to your opponent as you play against them. There is an interactive league where you choose to play as one team. You continue playing with this team and help them increase their league position by winning games with them. Also if you go online you can download the latest rosters so that all player trades are up to date unlike Fifa which fails miserably in this department. Furthermore, when you sign in online an ESPN radio is played in the background, telling you all about the daily sporting news.

Running at a smooth 60 frames per second, NBA Live 08 is as close as you can get to the court, without dropping dime for courtside seats.
